AREA WORK REPORT:
Rebar work continues to flourish in Local 86 jurisdiction.
Any and all
Journeyman Rodman that want to work can be employed as soon as they walk into
the dispatch hall. The majority of the rebar work continues to be in the
downtown Seattle area and the Bellevue/Redmond city limits. As always
Ironworkers with WABO certified stick or wire continue to be in demand. There
is rarely a job order for a regular JIW, most contractors want journeyman
with some sort of welding certifications. The Erection Company will start
this coming week on a retro fit contract for the Port of Seattle Terminal 5
Container Cranes A few of the Erection Company hands will be on site Monday.
Cooney McHugh continues at Sealand Terminal in Tacoma, Cooney could use a few
Raising Gang type hands for that project. They have been working 6-10s.
Pacific Erectors will start sometime this week on a fast paced project for
Quadrant Corporation. The site is in Federal Way, near Weyerhaeuser Corporate
Headquarters. Central Steel continues to be very busy with many rebar
projects including Harbor Steps, Seattle, Squalicum Parking and Georgia
Pacific Tissue in Bellingham. Another busy General Contractor is Baugh
Construction, they are employing the majority of local 86 Ironworkers both in
structural and rebar. Baugh is the General as well acts as Construction
Management on many projects in the greater King County area. Baugh does most
of their own rebar and is doing more of the structural steel on their
projects.
To sum things up, the out of work list continues to grow
slowly. Most of
our regular contractors that call in requesting hands don't get their
requests filled the same day. Participation at the hiring hall has been slow,
probably due in part to our summer weather. I continue to post work orders on
the web site Ironworkers Local 86 as
they come in to the office.
